Velebit has two national parks – North Velebit and Paklenica and whole mountain chain is recognized as Nature park from 1978.

Day 1We begin our tour on the northern part of Velebit at the mountain hut Zavizan

We begin our tour on the northern part of Velebit at the mountain hut Zavizan. Today we will hike through amazing karst forms on Rožanski and Hadućki kukovi using the trail that takes us in the heart of the Velebit mountain, reachable only by this remarkable trail made in 1930-5.

Day 2We start our day with hiking the south face of the mountain

We start our day with hiking the south face of the mountain from where we can enjoy beautiful views on Dalmatian coastline. We will have a spectacular view on islands Dugi otok and Rab . Second part of the day we will slide in to thick beech forest where we can enjoy the Silence, interesting and funny tree shapes and occasional water streams on our way.

Day 3We are climbing on Budakovo brdo

We are climbing on Budakovo brdo, a small hill from where we have great views on both sides: impressive view on the islands on the south side and mountain hills and Dabarski kukovi on the north. We will continue our hide towards Bačića kuk passing by impressing Dabarski kukovi in whole length. Finally, we will reach fir and beech forest and small village Baske ostarije.

Day 4We are ascending the stony ridge of Sladovačko hill

We are ascending the stony ridge of Sladovačko hill and continue through the forest. On this part of the trail we can enjoy mountain peace and let our mind be taken by the magical energy of Velebit. After reaching hiking shelter Šugarska duliba, we will climb Veliki Stolac, a peak with extraordinary view.

Day 5Today we are leaving area od Middle Velebit and entering South Velebit

Today we are leaving area od Middle Velebit and entering South Velebit. On our way we’ll pass Jelova Ruja, deep and long forested transversal valley, surrounded from all sides by the high peaks. This part of Velebit is one of places where you can meet Velebitska degenija (endemic plant species) protected plant which is a symbol of the area and on of the most endangered species in Croatia. Afterwards, we will ascent Debeli kuk which is exceptionally nice viewpoint with wide sight oriented to the sea and meadows that reach to the very rocky peak.

Day 6From hiking shelter Tatekova koliba the pathway leads to the foothill

From hiking shelter Tatekova koliba the pathway leads to the foothill of attractive 80 m high stone Stapina which is the biggest and the most imposing rock in South Velebit. This high smooth conical rock by its shape reminds on milkman’s tool piston. The fact that this huge rock, on outstanding grassy peak with nice view, is well visible from afar contributes to the beauty and attractiveness of Stapina. Trek lead us near Malo and Veliko Rujno which is grassy plateau between Bojinac and the ridge of Višerujna with the chapel of Our Lady of Rujno in the middle. Afterwards we will enter pine forest and continule till the mountain lodge in Nacional park Paklenica.

Day 7On our last day we will explore National park of Paklenica

On our last day we will explore National park of Paklenica. Starting from beautiful hut in the park we will walk into an amazing beech forest and explore it. First, first we will visit Manita peć which is one of the most beautiful caves in Croatia and it consists of only one, but tremendous hall, divided by stalagmites and stalactites into three smaller parts full with cave ornaments. Then, we will visit Anića kuk which is the biggest cliff on Velebit and the most remarkable rock in Croatia; canyon of Paklenica and many more!
